Fog Lifting In The Morning

There is just something peacful about watching the fog lifting in the morning.

When I woke up the morning of 4/13/2021 the fog was already starting to lift and was a thin mist when I looked out my kitchen window to see the sunrise. I had missed the beginning of the show but the clouds were beautiful shades of pink, cream and purple so I grabbed my camera and headed to my favorite spot I affectionatley call “The Hill” (I know very creative right?) When I crested the hill the fog was just hanging over the river and creeks in the valley and I couldn’t help but pause for a moment and reflect with God.

My first thought was “fog is a good analogy for those times when life can be confusing and you’re not sure where to place your next step because you can’t even see what is right in front of you”. But God, just like the sun, is the light and the warmth that lifts that fog and turns it into vapors that blow away in the wind, making the way clear again. Yet, it goes even deeper than that. The story in Exodus of God guiding the Isrealites by a pillar of cloud by day and of fire by night came to mind. Throughout the story you read several instances of the pillar of cloud coming down and the Lord speaking from it.

Exodus 19:9 And the Lord said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the Lord.

Exodus 24:16 And the glory of the Lord abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud.

Exodus 33:9  And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses.

So what does any of this have to do with the fog I was watching as it lifted? Please, bare with me I’ll put my thoughts together in a moment.

We know fog and clouds are both formed when water vapor condenses or freezes to form tiny droplets or crystals in the air. The only difference in the two is the altitudes at which they are formed. Clouds are formed in several different altitudes at 50 feet or above, on the other hand fog only forms near the ground lower than 50 feet. Therefore, in conclusion, fog is basically a low lying cloud. The cloud which the Lord spoke out of when it descended to the enterance of the tent could, in all intent and purposes, be concidered a patch of thick fog.

Lately I seem to be kind of in a fog. So, my take away from this moment was that the Lord was reminding me, when we are facing times of fog in our lives we don’t have to just wait for the fog to lift to experience His presence with us, he is right there in the fog. When we are unsure where to place our next step, stand still and take that time to seek Him. Pray and listen for His voice. He might not speak in a voice heard by your ears, but, He will speak to your heart and guide your steps, if you are to move, leading you out of the fog or he might just tell you to remain where you are while He lifts the fog.

God Bless!
